Fearful Courage

“Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear — not absence of fear.”
~Mark Twain

I am tired of fear. I am tired of how it binds limbs, gags mouths, blinds eyes, and destroys lives. I am tired of how it robs us of peace, joy, love, community, and honesty. I am tired of how it cloaks us in shadows that seem to protect us yet only serve to prevent us from being known.

Fear still affects me, but I have chosen to no longer allow it to master and control me.

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
~11 Timothy 1:7

God gives us the power to act even when we are afraid. Love for God and for others will give us the courage to press on in spite of fear’s efforts to stop us. God gives us a sound mind, one not clouded or confused by fear’s lies.

Fear can keep us from danger. Fear makes a good servant but a bad taskmaster. When fear rules and controls without reason, it should be ignored.

I am determined that fear will no longer hold me back, tie me down, keep me quiet, or make me a liar. When I feel fear’s grip, I will assess whether my fear is valid or if it is the kind I need to ignore and push through. Will you join me and choose to be fearfully courageous instead of just fearful?

Fear binds. Choose to be fearfully courageous instead of just fearful. Love life. Be brave. #TakeTheRisk

  1. This verse helps me to know when to ignore fear. “Be not afraid of sudden fear,…”Proverbs 3:25 When fear paralyzes me for no reason and is just there I know it is nothing to be concerned with because of this verse and am able to let the fear go.

  2. I am slowly but surely working through my fear and anxieties. I have to literally talk myself into some situations, but I’m determined! Thank you for this. It is comforting to know I’m not alone! 🙂

    • Lynette, I’m so glad you’re finding the courage to work through your fears. It’s so hard, isn’t it? You most certainly are not alone, and I’m cheering for you. <3
