The Secrets of Happy Families by Bruce Feiler

ecover for The Secrets of Happy FamilisIf you’ve read my blog or followed me on Facebook for any length of time, you know that my marriage and my family are important to me. I’m always looking for ways to improve as a wife and mom. (Goodness knows there’s plenty of room for improvement.) And when I was offered a chance to review The Secrets of Happy Families, I immediately signed up.

In the interest of full disclosure, even though I’m a fast reader and often devour multiple books per day, I have not yet completed reading this book. In this case, that’s actually a good recommendation. The Secrets of Happy Families is so full of great ideas and examples that I read a few pages (or paragraphs, in some instances) and then take a few days to mull over what I just read.

So far, I’ve read about learning to quickly adapt as a family, intentionally crafting meaningful mealtimes, creating a family mission statement (so want to do this with my family), fighting smart, teaching your children money management skills, and having difficult family conversations.

Although I’ve not agreed with 100% of what Bruce Feiler presents and/or recommends, I can say that everything I’ve read has given me food for thought. And I am certain that applying even a few of his recommendations would really help ours be a happier family.
